Strength, Power, Bone Health: How we program at Summit

The thinking behind TRIBE: Why we program the way we do…

As TRIBE continues to evolve, we wanted to share a little more about the thought process behind how we plan sessions and programs – not just what we do, but why we do it.

Strength is the foundation, not the whole picture

At the heart of everything we do is the belief that good strength training is about much more than simply lifting heavier weights. Strength is incredibly important – for confidence, independence, performance, bone health and feeling capable in everyday life – but the way we build that strength matters too.

Every person who trains at TRIBE brings their own history, goals, strengths and areas they’re working on. While we train together as a group, we want each person’s program to have purpose and support their individual journey.

Each session is built around a simple structure:

Mobilise > Activate > Strengthen

Before we ask the body to produce force, we want to help it move well, feel prepared, and switch on the systems that support great movement. This isn’t a warm-up in the throwaway sense – it’s intentional work on building quality movement patterns that support strength, resilience and long-term progress.

Why heavy strength work matters

Strength remains a cornerstone of what we do. Building muscle, improving capacity and becoming stronger are incredibly important for health, confidence and quality of life – at every age.

There’s a lot of exciting research and discussion right now around strength training, particularly around how we can best support people as they age. The increased focus on women lifting heavier, building muscle and training with purpose has been a positive shift in the industry.

Heavy strength work has an important place in a well-built program. Challenging the body with meaningful loads helps build strength, confidence and resilience – physically and mentally. When we lift heavy loads that feel genuinely challenging (with good technique), we create a signal that tells the body to adapt. Muscles become stronger, bones receive the stimulus they need to maintain density, the nervous system becomes better at recruiting muscles fibres, and connective tissues become more resilient.  That’s why heavy lifting is an important piece of the puzzle-but its only one piece.

A complete training approach considers the many qualities that help us stay capable over time – including strength, muscle, mobility, coordination, balance and the ability to produce force quickly.

This is why our programming also considers:

– Neuromuscular training – improving coordination, balance, control and the connection between your brain and body

– Power development – maintaining the ability to produce force quickly and move with confidence

– Mobility and movement capacity – helping you move well and with control

– Bone health – using appropriate loading and progressive challenges to support resilience

Power and Bone Health

Power and bone health are two areas we’re continuing to develop thoughtfully within TRIBE. This will look different for each person. For some, it may mean a faster, more controlled movement within a familiar exercise. For others, it may involve more dynamic challenges altogether.

The goal is always the same: the right challenge for the individual, progressing from where they are right now — not where a generic program assumes they should be.

How the body adapts

Our bodies adapt through consistent training, progressive challenge, quality movement, recovery, and the right stimulus at the right time. None of these on their own is enough – it’s the combination, applied consistently, that produces the results people actually notice: feeling stronger, moving better, having more confidence in daily life.

Research in this space continues to evolve, and so does our understanding of how to best support different people at different stages of life. Our role as your coaches is to take the best available evidence, combine it with our experience, and apply it in a way that helps each person continue to progress – safely and sustainably.

Our goal for every person at TRIBE

Our goal is simple: for every person at TRIBE to feel stronger, move better and build confidence in what their body can do – not just today, but for years to come.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your journey.
